Anyone growing them this year?

I've had great success this year....
I have about 6 that are a decent size...tough skin...nice colour...just wondering when to lift and eat?

Not this year, but i did last year. didn't do anything with them as my grand daughter scrounged them for school.

Am doing so, but not with great success this time.... only a couple of smallish fruit.

They store pretty well if ripened on bush. Like all squash you can harvest any time before the heavy frosts come. Stalk needs to be hard and dry..... leave stalk long

Oh go on then!...if it looks good pick it!....(if you use it over the next few weeks it is fine only need to be extra ripe for storage)

I like to scoop out seeds and fill it up with cream and cheese (gruyère) plus onion and wild mushrooms to make a turks turban soup bowl then bake in the oven ...mmmmnn.

Just cut my first one yesterday. I'm intending to put a pic on the blog but been too busy with jam, chutney, jellies etc fot the last 4 days. I'm quite excited about it - my first T'sT!

I grew 'turks turban' this year too, although they are a bit smaler than i thought they would be. Mine are only about 7 inches across What size have you all grown to then?.

Grown them for the first time this year, quite a few that i can see but made the mistake of growing the squash through the fruit bushes and its impossible to find them all :lol

I tend to grow all my squashes for storage so leave them on for as long as possible before the first frosts - last year this involved a torch light trip late at night after seeing the weather forecast.......... However, if you just want to eat one then cut it whenever you want.

@Wren - i have varied sizes the pictured one is about 9-10" across i have a couple a bit bigger...dont think there supposed to grow large.

A kindly grape gave me a selection of squashes this spring, so many in fact that I gave some away to other gardening friends.
Due to some rather dubious labelling by said grape I have no T'T,s but my friends have 2

I grew one plant of Crown Prince to see how it went, it produced two good sized fruits - I have squash and pumpkin risotto lined up for it
