I'm assuming that you mean celery here?

It means that you don't have to muck about excluding the light from certain bits of plants in order to get the tender white crop that you are after - they've been bred to sort themselves out.

Then it means that the curds should stay white without you having to bother breaking the leaves over the top to exclude the light.

Don't know how good they are at doing it themselves, though.

          Hi there.

Related to your question - any recommendations for self-blanching cauliflower seed?

On non self-blanching cauli I did break the leaves over the curds but my cauli still went brown - should I have tied it up or something? I'd be grateful for any advice.

          Thanks

JF No but you should have kept the slugs and snails off of them, thaat is the main reason for them going brown.
