I have quite a few nice carrots to harvest this year and I would like to store them for as long as I can. I've been told that they keep well in a box of sand that's kept in a cool frost free place. Would beach sand be any good to use or would it be too salty?

I just leave mine in the soil and pick them fresh as required!
Never had much luck with the sand or peat method and stored carrots go limp and 'hairy' & loose that freshly dug taste!

I've always thought that you needed to pull them up before frosts, do you mulch them at all Snadger?

Carrots should be fine left in the soil till you need them. They are hardy.Comment
