I have quite a few nice carrots to harvest this year and I would like to store them for as long as I can. I've been told that they keep well in a box of sand that's kept in a cool frost free place. Would beach sand be any good to use or would it be too salty?

I just leave mine in the soil and pick them fresh as required! Never had much luck with the sand or peat method and stored carrots go limp and 'hairy' & loose that freshly dug taste! My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order
to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)

I've always thought that you needed to pull them up before frosts, do you mulch them at all Snadger?
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
