i planted onion seeds this spring and they're now all about the size of the sets i've just bought. can i pull up the seed grown ones now, store them and replant them ? i know it's not the best idea, but i want to move them as the place they are is not really ideal, and i want to clear it sooner rather than later so i can make it more ideal.

I've put my overwintering onion sets in cell trays, hoping to get some roots on them before planting on the lottie to give them a fighting chance. The garlic I will hold off for a couple of weeks, then that will get the same treatment. Shallots are normally planted in spring, February or March.

I planted my Radar onion sets last weekend - going on holiday soon so wanted them in before I forgot.
I'm waiting until after we get back before putting in my garlic.
My thinking is that the onions will mature early to give me a crop before my maincrop onions (Ailsa Craig) are ready in August/September next year
The garlic (shop bought) will probably be ready for harvesting some time in July if previous years experience is anything to go byArtificial Intelligence usually beats real stupidity

Not planting any onion sets this year as am growing all from seed. Have sown some in pots but they're not going in the ground for a while yet. Garlic will go in mid October - no room in the bed until then anyway.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I have three different types of japanese onions which I have started clump planting, little and often as land becomes available.
I also have senshyu seedlings which will be planted as soon as they start to become potbound! My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

My onions are going in this weekend whether they like it or not.
