  • Times and spacing for sowing veg

I have bought veg packets from different sites and although some packets give great instructions on the backs, some are rubbish!

For example with my beetroot it says how much spacing to leave between rows but not between each plant in the row, how can you find this out, is there a good site which gives spacing instructions which are more informative.

Also how do you know when to sow certain types of veg, can some be sown all year even though other times will mean they are more sucessful. Having the same problem as above, seed packets don't give great instructions so I don't know when to sow. Again is there a site with this information out there as i'm pretty much clueless otherwise!

    Thanks

Are you sure? The info is probably there, but it isn't always clearly written. Anyhoo, beetroot is sown about 3" apart.

A good rule of thumb is to think how big the finished plant will be, and allow that much room.

As to when to sow, the seed packets give a good basic guide. You can also get a good book (from your library ?)
