We're going to plant half this year, save 6 of the resulting shallots to plant for seed next year and grow the rest of the seeds for crops next year too, that way we should have crops to last us until we've got our own seeds! Once we reach that point we'll start to pass seeds onto others too, as that willboth return PW's favour and ensure that they spread far and wide!
Also gave some to the old chap (late-80s) next door cos he grew some shallots from seed from supermarket shallots last year.To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower

Just to let you know that the banana shallot seed that was sown on the
30th December is up and showing well. They are just in an unheated greenhouse.
At least we know that the seed is viable now.Last edited by pigletwillie; 09-01-2007, 06:02 PM.

Who's Queen?!
Piglet.... don't tell me The Royal Forest of Dean has fallen off your map? How on earth will you find us again for Trousers' Birthday Dinner in February?!
Just to remind you that you sent some Banana Shallot Seeds to Gloucestershire as well. DOH !
And guess what? I sowed mine on New Year's Day, after you left, and they 'popped up to say hello' just today.
I sowed them 5 to a module, in a 40-module tray (half yours, half expensive Barringtons as a comparison experiment!!) and they have been living on my dining table in the conservatory.
I used Levingtons multi-purpose compost, and have kept that moist.
Nothing else to report, so 'pip pip' for now !
