    • I've got a couple of dozen growing Piglet and looking healthy but no sign of shallots yet. I think your £10 will be safe from me. How's everybody else getting on ?

      • I've sown mine early of march, not that much germinated. over all I have some 20 seedlings of them but some creatures has eaten them up one by one ( yet the beer traps are always empty ), I have had only around 5 or so left... and they don't seems to grow that good. I am not hoping to get any prize but really wish to grow the remaining to it's full size.
So sorry PW... It is such a waist.

        • All of those that made it to planting out on plot1 are still growing, tho they range from a reasonable size to still very small, so no idea what size we are going to get to! I'll try and get a couple of piccies tomorrow or Tuesday and post em on here so you can see how we are doing, but I too feel you're £10 is gonna be safe from us too PW!

          • As promised, a piccy of our banana shallots, they are the ones to the left of the wood, in the center! Inbetween the parsnips and the spring onions!

            • Had a quick peruse of the allium section at the lottie yesterday (and weeded it at the same time! ) banana shallots are growing well, but no sign of bulbing up yet.

Will take a piccie when i'm next up there (i keep taking the camera and either forgetting to use it, or realising that its run out of battery )
There's vegetable growing in the family, but I must be adopted
              Happy Gardening!

                  • Well, here are the two that survived the slugs and weather. They won't win any prizes for size, but will hopefully store to plant for seed next year.

I recall you saying at the time that the varying degrees of success different grapes had with the seed you kindly sent out may have been due to the seed being harvested too early. I have 109 of your shallots in two raised beds in my garden, the plan being to harvest all of them for seed to grow commercially next year (there may be royalties in it for you !!!!). How long do you reckon I should leave the heads before harvesting the seed.
They are not seeding yet - just wanna be ahead of the game. Actually, they are looking really good so maybe a couple will go the way of the dinner plate.

                              • Mine are still soldiering on. Got a few looking quite good. Pleased about that as the losses in the beginning were terrible. That £10 is definitely going elsewhere but will post a pic of the best one in the end.
