I am planning to grow spring oinions in containers in a cold greenhouse over winter. Will I be able to get a succession of crops or just one early next year.
Any advise very welcome. thanks.
I have sown 6 troughs of Winter Hardly White Lisbon, the first 3 about 6 weeks ago and the second batch about 2 weeks ago. The first batch have shot through and are about 2 inch tall now, no sign of the second batch yet, but then I wouldnt expect them to be through yet.
Im I right that I dont need to do anything to them other than just leave them outside to grow in all weathers and come the spring I will be rewarded with lovely onion. Only ever grown regular spring onions before, this is my first time at winter hardy type.
I've got a load of pots of them in a cold greenhouse varying from half-inch high to 6 inches and different varieties. As Two Sheds says, they won't grow much from now on but should take off like rockets come next spring. I just can't get enough onions. We had some from an earlier sowing chopped up in our mash tonight
I popped some in a bendy bucket in the green house (unheated) about 3 weeks since, no sign yet but I'm not in any rush for them, I'm just going to sit back and let them take there time.
