I was going to pot some up and put in the greenhouse overwinter (not heated). Maybe I will put some in the ground as well, see which do better.

The old guy says he didn't see one blackfly last year on his early ones.

When do you expect to harvest them from a greenhouse sowing?

I was going to keep them in there over winter then plant them out early in the garden. The bl**dy deer ate them this year so want to make sure they are bigger first.

Don't know - only got my greenhouse this year so I am trying loads in the greenhouse over t'winter. I've even put onion sets into the soil that the tomatoes are in; and just trimming back the toms when they are done so that I've got onions growing all winter. But you know what I'm like with onions.

Beans and Herbs
late October suggested here, I have heard early November with the aim being 4 inch high plants which (hopefully!) won't get battered by the winter storms while the roots will still grow.
I read of one person who always plants on bonfire night as that was his grandad's method.

I am planning on having a go in 2 weeks time. Is it worth doing in modules to get them started away from slugs?

i grew some in the greenhouse last year and they were brilliantly early. we were eating broad bean risotto ages before anyone else! I'll definately be doing some more in there this year....hope this helps

Putting some in next weekend and then staggering them over the next 4-5 weeks.
Don't know if it will work as my plan is to not get them all ready all at once.

I'm not putting mine in until the frost has killed off the plants in the bed they're going to go in, so probably late October?

I've got a few in but they're really green manure although they're in a bit where I won't be putting anything until the end of May so they've got a chance to do somethign for me.... the "official" overwintering stuff goes in in a couple of weeks time...
