Protective netting

I have been looking for a soft net to protect my Broccoli, cabbages and anything butterfly's like. Last year My green were invaded by them; even an army of grandchildren picking off the caterpillars was not enough.
I want a small mesh if possible. I found some that are 22Cm but is that small enough to keep butterfly's at bay

Hmm... I used a 12mm netting this year with good results..... nary a caterpillar in sight on the stuff that was under it yet I had to pick off tons off the solitary brussel for which there wasn't room under the netting.... its survived OK but it taught me I need a better netting strategy for next year (as I intend to grow more brassicas).

I use enviromesh.

Some other grapes have great success with net curtains (ie voiles, not the very lacy kind), which you can pick up fairly cheaply (Nicos likes the IKEA ones, but you could try bootfairs). Just be sure to support it well away from your crop so that the butterflies can't lay their eggs through it.

I have used that 22mm this year on my PSB and the butterflies still get through. For my kale and cavalo nero I have used enviromesh for the first time and will now never use anything else as it is fabulous and works a treat!!

I tried Harrod Horticultural's butterfly netting on my brassicas for the first time this year. I can definately recommend it. NO CATERPILLAS
