A squash/cougette/or something question!

my friend gave me a couple of yellow ball courgette plants earlier this year APPARENTLY!!

they were green to start with then grew way too big to be a courgette so we decided they had simply grown into marrows. BUT then they went yellow! So now we dont know what they are.

The fruits are about 6 inches in diametre and i cut a couple of them open tonight with a view to roasting them. the inside bit where the seeds are was orange and the flesh yellow.

needless to say i forgot to take a picture!

anyone got any ideas what they are?

and we liked them - how do i save the seeds please?

have kept about 30-40 seeds so if anyone wants any (once i know how to save them) let me know and I'll happily share!

A yellow hubbard squash?... how ball like is it, were they saved seeds (could be a wacky hybrid if they are... all the cucurbits are tramps....)

I think you have got Yellow/Summer Ball. If you read the description, it does say it turns into a pumpkin if left to mature. COURGETTE

It's an F1, so no point saving the seeds, they won't come true.

hey two sheds, i think you are right! looked up some images on google and i think that deffo fits the bill! thanks for that and they were most def pumpkins last night!

pity about the seeds though as it would have been great to grow more next year (without the expense of buying new seeds!).

what would happen if i tried to grow them as a matter of interest (and probably my stupidity!)?

We grew saved squash/pumpkin seed this year and have got a right old collection of squash!!!
Orange/green/yellow and a combination of all 3 with soft or solid middles- one of them even had a slightly spag squash middle!.....it's a great adventure...and the flavours are yummy!

They'll grow, but because they're the tarts of the veg world, you will have variations on size/shape. I would do it, just to see what you get. You're bound to get SOME of the characteristics you liked from the F1 generation!
