Please can anybody help me, i have tried to grow celeriac in fairly large containers 5 plants per container. planted in april and watered and fed through summer etc today i went to dig up, the top was showing large diameter plenty of leaves dug up and all i got was under the top lots of roots but very little body. Have i dug up to early or just useless grower?

Yep. I'd go along with Two Sheds. It needs open ground and little root disturbance at the begining of the growing season and also needs plenty of water. Growing them in containers probably didn't give them the water they needed.
I sow mine in individual pots, and pop them in the ground when theyre ready, so i don't disturb the roots when i put them out. (minus the pot obviously).
and water them copiously all through the growing season. I also haven't lifted any of mine yet, as they have a lot more swelling to do.

( If you've not much space - stick it in with your flowers- but water it well!)
