I bought 2 packs of seed potatoes from Morrison's today. Each pack contains 5 spuds.

I have: Charlotte Salad potatoes and Rooster potatoes...

I still plan on sticking them in containers... would it be a good investment to buy 2 PVC black bins???

I have grown out of dustbins for the last 2 years but this year I'm gonna grow out of bags that can be rolled up. Check out Tattiemans thread.

It may do, but it also blocks the light untill they are well established.

What causes blight? Spores in the soil, spread through the air by a period of damp weather - it can get anywhere, even in greenhouses.
Just seen an interesting segment on the Country File about starting off the early Jersey Royals - basically they take off the long first sprout in the seed potato - they are looking for 4 smaller sprouts to form in the 'rose end' (the end with shoots) of the spud. They plant the biggies first because they are stronger - the smaller ones go in later. Fascinating stuff - and OMG they are doing Cabbage stalk walking sticks - gotta go!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?
