            I always think of B&B as being mash & peas.

                I don't even know what to do about my the stuff on my compost bin. I need to have a better look, but it looks like someone (possibly the previous owner who only went 3 times before giving up) put brambles and various other weeds and grasses in the compost and I am worried about making things worse as the plot if already suffering from brambles, couch grass & bindweed. Thankfully I have a pretty much full compost bin at home, so might bag it up and take it down and then transport the dalek down there too for now. I will probably wait until spring just because I need to get some well rotted manure down anyway and will do that asap.

                  Mad house;

                  If there are nasties in your compost bin; bag it up for a year in a bin bag or 4, and the lack of sunlight should kill off any life in the bindweed/couchgrass.

                  Or - you can spread it on a clear bit and pick out anything that looks green/live and just bag that up -

                  Or pick out the stuff that looks green/live and leave it to dry out [next year] and burn it; and then spread the burnings on the ground.

                  Or both - burn the bramble stalks and pick out the green/live bits and bag them up.

                    Thanks Andrea!

                    I had a go at moving the various bags of weeds off the top of the black plastic yesterday as I want to get to digging it over before mulching. The bags were clear plastic so the weeds inside were just growing out of the bag and then the bags disintegrated as I tried to move them. In the end, I took as much as I could to the tip. Then I cut down all the brambles and dug up as much as the root as possibly. Hubby & I piled it all up, even after squashing it down, it is nearly as tall as me. We have covered that over with the black plastic that we pulled back to expose the soil to the rain. We hope that we can get the shed up soon so we can dry it out to burn in the spring. I will do the same with the stuff in the compost.
