What do you do about drainage for them - holes in the bottom of just stones etc?

I cut the bottoms out and use them to plant courgettes , cucumbers & tomatoes in them,then put the whole thing on top of the prepared beds when they are hardened off.
this helps with root disturbance when planting out and prevents waterlogging round the necks of the cucurbits,just think of them as mini raised beds

I make holes in the bottom.

I use a soldering iron to put holes in the bottoms

I do my holes in the sides about an inch from bottom that way you're left with a bit of a reservoir, handy when we go away camping for a couple of days.

Belt and braces for me. Holes bodged in then broken clay pots. For the uninitated, Morrison's buckets are the FLOWER BUCKETS, not buckets with handles.
