how to get early early potatoes

Bought my copy of GYO yesterday with the wallchart telling you when to do everything. I was just wondering, if you sow early pots in March, you should be eating them in June, so is it possible to sow them earlier and maybe have them in an unheated greenhouse (I'm thinking in containers) for an earlier crop? It's just I know the seed pots are available now and it would be great to be eating new pots in early May.
I would be aiming to sow not many early, then more in March for a regular crop.

I wanted to do spuds for Christmas but left the planting a bit late - can't remember when I finally got them into the pots but they took ages to come through. They are now doing really well and I am looking forward to early earlies.

Mine are in buckets next to the house wall. I may have to nurse them a little if we get a cold spell but that hasn't been a problem so far this winter.

They way I see it is that the seed spuds don't cost much and a little time and compost isn't much of a risk if it doesn't work out they way you hoped. If nobody experiemented, we wouldn't grow half the stuff we do. good luck and have fun!

I've got my Charlotte in buckets in the greenhouse now Waffler in the hope of getting some really early ones. As long as they're kept frost free once the shaws come up I think they will be fine. Give it a go.

I've got my Jersey Royals in a pot indoors, I'm hoping to get a very early crop!

Hi all,

Slightly different sort of question but still related to tatties.

I bought all mine on Saturday (weather was so bad couldn't think of anything else to do!), ealies, seconds and mains.

My question is should you start the chitting process all at the same time, or should you just start the earlies now, then the seconds in a months time followed by the mains a month after that, or what??

Help and advice would be much appreciated.

Also, planting in buckets? Are they deep, big enough to get anything decent from??
