As the title says - are these the same by different names or do they taste different. They look identical.

Urchi Kuri = Potimarron?

I have always thought they are the same. I am pretty sure that the ones I "inherited" are Potimarron and when I showed a photo on here, Momol (an ex MOM and pumpkin expert) said it was Urchi Kuri. Not sure if it helps much but my vote goes for them being the same "animal"A garden is a lovesome thing, God wot! (Thomas Edward Brown)

Several internet sources say they are one and the same
I have grown Uchiki Kuri for many years and found it to be a reliable grower with good cooking qualities. It is fairly early to mature so crops well even in poor summers.
I also find the size very convenient - some sqash are too large
As for the flavour being like chestnuts ?? Some of the catalogues are a bit free with the descriptions !

I have not grown Potimarron, but I have grown what were claimed to be Uchiki Kuri and Red Kuri( Red Kuri claimed by Plants of Distinction, to be the best of the Potimarron types).
They are slightly different. Uchiki Kuri is not so red and does not have any green on the stem or button as has Red Kuri. The stem on Uchiki Kuri is yellow when young. My feeling is that Uchiki Kuri is slightly easier to grow and sets fruits more readily. They have a similar texture and taste.
