  • Garlic question

I was just wondering if i could plant cloves from the garlic i grew last year rather than buying a new pack, or would this create any growing issues???

I read somewhere, probably on here, that it is good to use some of your own crop, as it adapts to your climate. Don't know how true that is or how much difference it makes.

I had planned to replant some of my own, but we ate it all! I have therefore this month planted 3 times as much so that I have some to replant next year!

I think I need to buy some more garlic to plant, I only planted 3 bulbs worth and we eat an awful lot of garlic in our house. Garden centre here I come, again

Go for it if you have some left.

You're quite safe to replant your own garlic Blue. That's what the garlic farmers do.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Hi Blue I'm going to be planting the ones that are sprouting in my garlic pot (they taste too bitter to use anyway )

I've planted loads this year, hopefully enough to last till next year and enough to replant so I don't have to buy again. It's stupid pricey to buy (the stuff for planting). I read somewhere recently (though I don't believe it) that it's not a good idea to use your own for more than five years as it gets crapper and crapper and you will eventually have to buy new stock. I personally think this is a pile of cack and a ploy just to get the GYOers to keep spending. Pft.

Yes. Aparently it takes three years to adapt to your soil and area. And if you use good plump healthy cloves to grow on, you will get a good crop year after year. Weather permitting, no garlic likes a soggy foot
