...about three weeks ago, groaning under the strain of the enviromesh, I thought my brasiccas needed to be set free, so I took it off. Imagine my horror when last week I found some caterpillars had started to chomp through some of my PSB and kale. Blinking hell, is nothing safe? I know the weather hasn't been arctic, but I did think that the cabbage whites weren't water-proofed enough (or weighty enough) to survive the wet and wind we've been having. Oh well, got plenty growing, so I guess I can spare them some, though any that survived my retribution must surely die soon? (I can't believe I'm so vicious at times...). Will leave it a bit later next year before I expose me brassicas to the elements.

The people around here must feed their pigeons well as they never seem to trouble the brassicas. Have had some problem with cabbage whites but for the most part managed to control just by picking them off and drowning. Had most trouble with the turnips and caterpillars.

I made a stir fry last night (kale, leek, cabbage etc). I soaked it all, sliced and cooked it. Just as I was plating up, I saw a caterpillar creeping across the chopping board. I know where there's one there's a dozen, so my stomach dropped and I just couldn't eat my meal.

Well, it wasn't slugs. Seems I'm suffering an invasion, too. With this thread in mind, I went out this morning and saw some stripped leaves and found loads of the little s***s having a good munch on my autumn-planted broccoli. Lots of lobbing ensued and I expect I'll have to lob more, as they were all sizes, so probably still hatching. Humph!

I fleeced all my plants a few weeks ago (mainly to keep the pigeons off), however, in the high winds I suspect its blown halfway across the county by now. If any of you Kenties spot my fleece, could you tell it to come home please? Thank you. ...now I'm worried about caterpiller invasion, nothing knows what season we are in does it.Last edited by Pumpkin Becki; 24-11-2009, 11:45 AM.
