Dividing aloe

Hi all!

My aloe is HUGE! It must have grown out of spite because all summer it has been ignored whilst I lavished attention on my chillies and toms. Now I'm confined to the great indoors and I have to face facts and re-pot. It's currently in a tiny little thimble of a thing and has sprouted many little mini-aloes which I've been told I can take out and pot up. Does anyone have any advice for how I might best proceed or is it a very straightforward operation?

In the winter the aloes go thorugh a dormancy stage where they need little water and shoudl not really be disturbed unless you are talking about pups which are different. So right now in winter this is not the time for re-potting i would suggest re-potting in summer or winter when there is new growth above aswell as below ground.

I split mine anytime. You can't kill these with a blunderbus. Umm, why is it in veggies?

Aloe is just about impossible to kill off: just split off the babies and place in some nice compost mix and they will be giants in a year.... I cant give aloe vera away any more: all my neighbours have had baby aloes of me; every kitchen window on my street has a triffidlike offspring aloe growing and multiplying.....
