No, I was disappointed to find that there won't be a Potato Day in South Wales - the trip over to Bristol is just too expensive to make it worthwhile.

Has anyone been to a potato day today and if so what did you buy?
I will be at Gordale potato day tomorrow for a look around.

Yup - I already have 14kg of tatties; [Amorosa and Kestrel] and bought some Mayan Twilight, Charlotte, Setanta [as recommended by your good self]. They were at Chesterfield and were your spuds - it was good to see.

Nice result. I hope it was a success for them. I hope someone got some pictures for me of my spuds on display

Jilly that is a great selection. Get the Congo planted as early as you can as they take ages to mature and kust seem to grow more and more shoots. The Ryecroft purple will through a nice crop of tasty spuds but you don't get many per plant. The Maxine will have a beautiful skin finish and have good drought resistance. Majestic are a really tasty floury spud that at one time was the biggest seller in the UK. The rest you probably know about.

Thank you for the info and advice Tattieman Especially the pointer on the Congo.

I will also be growing Rocket, Red Rooster, Charlotte, Juliette and Pink Fir Apple. Wanted to try lots of different varieties this year as last year only grew International Kidney, Juliette and Desire.

zazen999 are you planning on stealing that mans watch that you took a picture of
That is the first time I have seen my new point of sale material on display and i think it looks good.
No problem jilly. I thought there would have been more people at a potato day when you see how many are on. I better check that there isn't another thread somewhere.

Nah, I'm a time-free hippy! If you'd said, I'd have taken some more for you. I think people might just be a little flaked out and will hopefully be on tomorrow with spud tales to tell.

Did you do the stickers - genius idea if you did?

hi y'all, Last year Chesterfield Potato Day was on a Sunday in an outdoor rather deserted market, it was successful but a bit bereft, this year it was today (Saturday) in a vacant shop unit in one of the main indoor strands... Cool move, was packed by comparison with loadsa people signing up for Transition email etc more of which about in a mo. I got some pix which I've sent to the group (Transition Chesterfield) but you're welcome to use 'em too Tattieman if useful. Tubers were 12p each, 10p if pre-ordered which seemed fair: I've already got a few varieties chitting but today added Winston, Carlingford, Nadine, Pentland Squire (in place of Camelot which either weren't available or had run out) Harmony, Maxine, Picasso and Valor. I've got this new allotment to populate but some varieties I still hope to grow via the Tattieman extended container technique as I usually grow all pots in containers.... Perhaps a couple of each?

This particular Potato Day is organised each year by “Transition Chesterfield” which I hadn’t realised until chatting to folk there today is actually part of a national/international initiative with about 160 local community groups around the UK and over 270 around the world…. Interesting.... I'll post some further details about the Transition community movement under "General ChitChat".

A pleasure.... we should have arranged for attending Grapes to have a cuppa! Are you in the photos by chance, hit and miss... I was there about 12.30. It was actually much busier than my snaps suggest as I waited for little lulls so that the potatoes were visible else it would have been pictures of people's backs! I have now posted details about the Transition Network under "General Chit Chat". bb.

No I know nothing about the stickers but tell me more about them as they sound like a good idea.

I will await the full report from the organisers with excitement.
Did they have any of my booklets on sale?
Camelot must have run out because I am sure I sent them.
Yes 2 spuds in a container is what I would do.

Oh and just incase your wondering why I am up at 5am I have just finished lambing and was having a cup of tea so I thought I would have a bit look on here. In no way am I addicted to this site. Honest.
