Firstly, I apologise for my euphoria at something so trivial, but apart from buying the odd book, subscribing to GYO and complaining to Spear and Jackson, this is my first step towards the gardening dream (or nightmare).
I've built my first raised bed.
Now, I fear I may have gone OTT, but I adhere to the principle that if it's worth doing, it's worth going over the top.
The initial stage was nearly the final one. I had purchased 150 x 50mm (6x2 in old money) timber in 6 metre lengths. I actually bought 180 metres of it! The very first cut saw me measure it wrong. I hurled the piece of timber in anger, and took out my table saw. That annoyed me so much I hurled the table saw, and took out my Kawasaki coffee mug. I tried to calm down, and about ten minutes later I was seeking a bandage for my saw-cut thumb, and a beer. Still, I perserved.
I am happy (and somewhat relieved) to say that all my problems came in that one short 30 minutes of pain and anguish.
I am now the proud owner of a 2.5 x 1.5 x 0.7 metre bed, and I'm ready to fill it with stuff. For many of you this is nothing; for me, it's a momentous occasion.
I actually built this, with my hands.
