Can anyone help? My potatoes that were grown from seed pots this year, I wanted to save some to replant next year. Is this ok to do?
Many thanks, Rachael.
Mixed emotions about saving your own seed. Lots of people do it and never have any problems. Others notice decreased yields and viral problems.
If you feel you want to use last years spuds as seed potatoes your best bet is growing them in a contained environment, i.e. grown in pots or bags.
I usually buy most of mt sed tatties for the allotment mainstay and sometimes use some saved tubers in pots.
Last year I grew some spuds from 'True potatoe seed' which have hopefully got tubers (won't know until snow goes) These will be my own variety and I will deffo be growing these in pots!

He means that some of us tried growing potatoes from the little tomato-like fruits that grow on the potato plants; rather than using seed potatoes.
Have you managed to keep any over to replant Zaz?

I haven't, mainly because I ate them in a salad one day. Norty me
Norty step for you then!!!!!!!!!! Lol
Waiting until the snow and ice goes to see if I can remember where I planted them and if they have survived below ground,................ no reason they shouldn't have as I still have quite a few other tatties to dig up!

I've just had the T&M catalogue drop through the door [well, handed to me by the postie]; and in the kitchen garden section they are selling 'mini tubers'. They look suspiciously like the seedlings that I got from my 'true potato' seeds that I put into kitchen roll to get started.

Hmmm...................
Should be virus free stock then.......
