I really prefer a slightly waxy spud to a floury one, so a blight resistant Desiree would be potato heaven for me

Desiree are still the most popular red spud in the UK.

Hi tattieman, can you recommend a first early, I don't have lots of room so I'll only be putting in half a dozen seed potatoes, I'm not bothered about mega crops as long as there tasty....I was told Dunluce by a friend, have you heard of them, if you have are they any good???? Thanks in advance.

GN, I've had Dunluce 2 years in a row - the first year they were great, but last year they suffered a bit from lack of watering while I was broken. Ulster Sceptre I quite like too; although they are a bit crumbly when boiled, they taste great I'm trying some of the other 'Ulster' varieties this year too.

Just ordered the rest of my seeds today and am trying perennial cauliflower plants this year, be interested to see how they work out!

GN I am totally biased when it comes to Dunluce as they are one of my favourite earlies.
They grow really fast and are similar in shape to Swift but the taste is just great. They are what you expect a good potato to taste like.
Zaz I don't stock Amorosa but Alan Romans has a small amount this year.
Sarz I hope the review goes something like Setanta truly are great and out performed Mira for blight resistance and cooking qualities.
I gave some Setanta to Medwyn Williams last year and he said they were tremendous.
They were on the winning stand display at harrogate last year.

Thanks for the advice Tattieman, I noticed Jim McColl on The Beechgrove Gardens grew their mini tubers in a raised bed so wanted to check (think you supplied the mini tubers for them). I'll pop an order in after the New Year.

Guys any suggestions for a blight resistant all rounder? I am going to grow maincrop at my Dads this year cos my garden is just not big enough, so they need to be pretty tough.

Frosty I have to admit that Alan Romans sent the minitubers to the Beechgrove garden and that I supplied the normal spuds.

Hey Tattieman - I recently bought my first bag of spuds since the spring, and they were called sommat like Arvo? I bought them from my Butcher, and he'd never heard of them either. They are whites, not a lot of flavour, but great as Roasties and absolutely fab as Jackets - he was told they aren't that great as chips, but we haven't tried them yet as we don't eat a lot of chips.

Have you heard of them?

An update for Tattieman - they were called Arbo, I checked with my Butcher this morning, although he calls them Asbo!

Forgot to say, I'm not wanting to grow them (though I may now, come to think of it), I was merely curious as nobody seemed to have heard of them. I'll send you some if you like!

G4 I can't find any data on them in europe. I have found Ambo,Ario,Anio but no Arbo.
I will keep searching for them.
