Well I've decided that in the morning I'm going to walk into town to Wilkinsons - snow or not (don't expect there will be any buses running past my lane again tomorrow). I've just got to get out and see what they've got to offer.
Think I'll take my rucksack along just in case I have to get some seed potatos!
I've gotta drive to Bournemouth today so I just might have to see whether there is a Wilkinsons on route!
Or Netto.........

Worth a visit nerdgas,. Visited yesterday and the shelves are looking good. They are doing good deals on three packs of seeds and all the seed pots look really good. Lots of bulbs and tubers too, might be worth buying now and storing in a cooler place rather than leaving them in a warm shop. Gonna have to go back at the weekend!
went to my wilkos and nary a seed spud to be found sigh oh well
I braved the snow and ice and went on Monday, seeds were out but no spuds or onion, the staff were still clearing Christmas stock off the shelves so I expect they will have them in soon.
Got on the M4 and then heard about an accident near Swindon with queues causing an hours delay so decided to turn around and work from home rather than risk taking the minor roads down through Wiltshire into Dorset........
Had a check for Nettos but the nearest is about 60 miles away in Kettering!
Oh well. Maybe I will pop out later today (either Bristol or Stroud as both are about the same distance away from me).
Im going to hot foot it down there as soon as possible!
That's good, we could do with someone to melt the ice.......

OOh you started something there BM - popped into Wilkos in my lunch half hour - big mistake - 6 packets of seeds, 1 bag of potatoes and some asparagus later- late back to work and the lottie is still frozen so there ain't a lot I can do with the asparagus yet!
How much was the asparagus from Wilko's? I need asparagus.

Went in today and saw them, but didnt check the price, sorry
However I did buy
3kg Rocket Seed Potatoes - 2.98
Rooster Seed Potatoes pack of 5 - 99p
Pink Fir Apple Seed Potatoes pack of 5 (actually 9 in pack) 99p
500g Turbo Onion Sets - 1.27 (or something like that)
250g Red Onion Sets (variety not specified assume Red Barron) - 1.27
I snuck out to the Stroud store and came back with:
Spinach - picasso F1 - £1.48
Pepper - 'sweet' colour rainbow mixed - ditto
Pea - Sugar snap - £1.23
Carrot - Purple Haze - £2.35 although they are purple so I thought what the hell.
Also got some all purpose garden wire (I dunno why it seemed like I would probably need it at some point!).
And 15 4" square pots (at 97p for 5 I couldn't help myself and will probably use them to pot up my chillies in jiffy pellets and riot cubes).
I also bought a joint PH tester and soil dampness monitor thing....(It's for houseplants so I have no idea how it ended up in my basket - I think I put it in there to use as an excuse to go back again to return it......)
Oh and a bag perlite at £1.50 odd which is half the price of it in the local GC's!
I get some stuff from Wilko, but B&Q are better, but a bit harder to get to, and Hillier's Garden Centre is better still, but harder still to get to. However, Wilko are good for odds 'n' sods, given that they're convenient. Their gardening section all but disappeared in the run-up to Christmas, but hopefully it'll be back to full-size by now - I haven't been in recently.
Like nerdgas, I bought a ph/moisture monitor from Wilko about a year ago - it's got a dial, a switch to alternate between pH and moisture, and two prongs. However, sometimes, when I stick it in the ground, it says one thing, and when, to double-check, I stick it in again a few inches away, it says something totally different! I also a while ago bought a hose and a set of brass fittings. The fittings were absolutely useless - no written instruction, just some inadequate illustrations, and I could not persuade any water at all to come through them, whatever i did. Also, they didn't fit my kitchen tap properly, because they need a screw-thread, such as you get on outdoor taps. I assume you can get fittings which will attach to an ordinary tap? Meant to return the fittings and ask for my money back, as per guarantee on the pack, but never got round to it, cos I'm a wimp.
