  • Seed seduction

I have come across the following veg seeds and plants and wondered if anyone has tried them? I'm pretty new to growing so inexperience is my middle name. Trying to decide what to grow at my new lottie but got sidetracked and seduced by the following! All advice really welcome, especially since I've signed up for the seed saving circle! Tho think I should try something very easy and fail safe for that to balance out my inexperience!

All the following are from the victoriana nursary

Asparagus pea - like the look of it!
Cabbage all round seed collection - can sow all year?
carrots all round seed collection - ditto
salsify seed sandwich island-never tried it
strawbini seed - cross between strawberry and spinach!
Tomarillo tree tomato seed - looks amazing

    These ar from T&M
Kale, walking stick - grows very tall, then stem can be made into a walking stick!
Brassica - petit posy, bit lik a brussel sprout but without the taste!
I haven't bought any yet, thought I'd see what you all think. Secretely hoping you all say easy to grow, tasty, your a fool if you don't.....!

I can help you on the asparagus pea - easy to grow, taste very bitter & generally not nice (nothing at all like asparagus as is claimed), pretty flowers.

You know what I'm going to say: if you use your search button, you'll find other threads on your subject.
Here's one on asparagus pea: http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...agus-peas.html

(Search/Advanced Search - type in ASPARAGUS PEA, search titles only)

Thannks all, will give asparagus peas a miss I think, shame they looked lovely. Will give carrots and cabbage a go i think, and then maybe I will be tempted to give walking stick kale a go as a novalty!
Also will promise to use the search button more!

well i like salsify its got a very mild flavour ...but we cant buy parsnips here so i use it as a parsnip substitute .....my salsify crop was better than my parsnip crop (only 3 plants grew to maturity) but along wth carrots and celeriac it is a very useful winter veg ...not exciting but adds to the variety.....
