Sqaush variety ?

Hi everyone
Im am looking for a type of squahs which would do well in a clay soil aswell as not being able to spread out very far. Additional would be a short growing season

you could try a butternut like hunter or cobnut and grow up a support like an arch

...good idea about an arch support snakeshack!!

the smaller varieties( ie lighter) would do well. you can always support the squash in tights/netting.
chestnut squash are yummy too.

I grew Onion squash over an arch in 2008, it looked great, this last year I grew one called "Little Gem" from Robinson's, you can train most of the squash family that have a trailing habit over an arch or pagoda, as long as there not from the BIG squash or pumpkin family, Crook neck are another good one to grow up and over something.

Butternut has a long growing season though.... Festival won't take over your world and is a good month quicker than even UK hybrids like Hunter.... Bon-Bon might try to take over but it will grow over an arch (and your shed, compost heap, car and slow-moving plot neighbour) and it's one of the best tasting squash available and a lot earlier than any butternut.

I saw something called squashkin with Marshalls that claimed to be a cross between a crown prince and a butternut - should I bother......

Winter Festival are lovely and they store well into Winter, you can train the plant into rings too. You get about 5 or 6 pr plant and the flesh is dense.

Before I get a coat, Try Rolet "gem" squash up an arch! lovely and the size of a tennis ball!
