Keep 'em hidden. I'm a postie, and many years ago I used a sack for some non-regulation purpose outside my house. it was seen, and a guvnor had a quiet word, telling me to get rid of it quick, or I could be in the brown stuff.

Yes the T&M bags are the same as my ones and they do let light through them when they are empty. I am hoping to design some new ones that are only 12" high and will only hold one potato. I think you will get a better crop from that than putting 5 potatoes in the big bag. I would not put any more than 2 potatoes in the 40 litre bags as they just get over crowded and produce a smaller crop. The postal sacks should work fine but keep them rolled down to around 18" in height and the the darker colours will probably retain more heat. Black bags are always hotter then white bags.

Thanks everyone for the advice, I think I will sew them in the middle - cut them in half & get 2 bags from one as they are about 4 foot high, take tattiemans advice & put 1 seed per bag. Will still experiment with the colours & see what happens.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”
