hi folks . im going to be growing some of my lettuce this year in waterculture.
they will be tom thumb and little gem lettuce from seed .
equipment list;
root riot plugs
plastic rectangle container(size 4feet x 3feet approx)
polestyrene sheet 1" thick and 1" smaller around than the container
1 aquarium air pump and airstone
2" net pots
nutriunts
water
germinate seeds in root riots cubes or rockwool cubes untill showing roots at the bottom.
first drill holes in polystyrene to take the net pots approx 6" apart.
cut the polystyrene 1" smaller than the container all the way round.
fill with water , then plonk the airstone in the water .
when you have roots , then put the cubes in the net pots and the net pots in the holes you cut , the polystyrene will float on the water and the roots will hang in the water . the airstone will keep the water oxygenated and stop the water from fouling . change the water every 2 weeks maximum.
add a tiny bit of nutriant as you go. try not to let the water get to hot about 15.oc-18.o centigrade.
now this is my first go so dont take it as gospel but this is the basic principle. if anyone here would like to add anything feel free
