Worm question please don't laugh

I have a plot at the side of my tunnel where I do not think the soil is as good as my other plot, during the summer it goes hard, but crops do grow alright on it, and I wanted to make the soil deeper.

Since the Autumn I have added pigeon poo, raw veg cut up, tea bags, eggs, rock dust, compost from the compost bin and sand, I dug it over in december and yesterday and it seems that all the worms at the allotment live on my plot, hundreds of them all sizes hanging out of the soil I turned , and hanging off my folk, I do mean loads.

To the point have I put to much organic matter into the plot, as I hope to plant my new potatoes in one month.

I don't believe you CAN add too much manure to your soil. The worms are just doing their job and beaking down the organic matter whilst at the same time aerating the soil and releasing nutrients. The worms will have no effect on your tatties and may even ensure a bumper crop!

I'm in agreement with The Snadge - the worms are there because you have created a potentially very good growing medium. If you turn a soil and find no worms, you need to worry.

You'll find they come to the surface on warm days and snuggle down on colder ones! As our expert Snadger says, they are working the organic stuff into the soil for you to make it really productive, job done, simples!
