I've been offered two bales of Peat that's been left behind a garage for about 5 or 6 years, thing is what can I do with it.

I'd accept it, and try it out for seedlings. If they germinate ok, then use it. If they don't use it as a mulch.

I'm sure it will be fine. Not using it is just a waste so you may as well have a go.

Back home with the Peat, one bale is huge around 3ft long the other was burst open with 'stuff' growing in it. Anyway they're both mine now

If I've got it right I can mix this with the compost out my dalek and use to grow in my pots and containers.

Yup, i'd use it for seedlings myself and any left over mix with home made compost and use in pots.

I buy a bale of peat or cheap coir based compost and mix it with garden soil and sand to make my own JI type potting compost............saves me a fortune!

If it's been in a peat bog for thousands of years it's hardly likely to deteriorate after a few years in a placcy bag!

I know what you mean about the peat being thousand of years old its a bit like having a sell by date on Natural Spring water

If it's light brown in colour and dry, you may need to use boiling water to reconstitute the peat.

Or mix a little washing up liquid in with cold water to get over the problem with absorption.

The bales been outside for 5-6 ish years so they've soaked up a lot of water, it took 3 of us to move the full one onto the sack barrow.
