3 Sisters MethodAre you going to join in the 3 sisters trial Muckman ? Quite a few of us are up for it, and the Scottish grapes are particularly interested in finding out how far north corn can be grown. I'll be growing corn, beans and squash where I think they have the best chance but I'm also going to grow some by the traditional method to see what happens. If you missed the original posting to this link here it is again.

Great Muckman. The more people we have in there the more reliable the results. And Grapes are always up for a challenge.

Welcome to the trial Vicki Lorraine. It's getting better all the time. Think we better start thinking about what we're planting - when. Have you decided on any varieties. What varieties have grapes decided on. Are you going for all in one bed.

I am going for all in one bed.
Have already purchased my seeds so i am growing butternut squash, bluelake beans, and Miracle F1 sweetcorn.
I was going to underplant the corn anyway this year as had problems with weeds last year. But now i will add the beans in too.

Defo want to join in with this, but isn't it going to b*gger up the rotation? I'm a fan of John Seymour, and he wants me to put legumes separately to the squash/sweetcorn....

Perhaps I should find a separate quiet corner?

I am also going to give the 3 sisters a go. I have already bought some climbing borlotti beans. Any idea if these would be suitable? I have only ever grown runner beans before, VERY dumb question I am sure but do the beans wrap around the corn stalk like a runner bean would on a bamboo cane?

I'm in for the 3 sisters trial too. On the lottie I'm growing Double standard sweetcorn (from realseeds.co.uk), Kentucky Homestead beans around the perimeter and pea beans up the interior corn plants, and Waltham butternut squash. At home I'm going to try the same sweetcorn with Cobra and Bluelake beans and some Lady Godiva squash from Heritage Seed Library. Might grow some borlotto for drying up the interior plants.

That's if this baby ever let's me put him down for long enough...

I child-proofed my house, but they still manage to get in.

                                Three Sisters

                                Im gonna try it too..
I have an large old water butt split in too...Am gonna plant 3 -4 corn (Sundance) in each along with a courgette and cucumber which I'll trail over the sides and peas up the corn.

Think it'll work well at the back of my plot where it will get plenty of sun but not too exposed

                                Will keep you all posted!!
