  • Congo Potatoes

Congo potatoes were my impulse buy at yesterdays Potato Day

I know they are a heritage variety and that they need a long growing season, but I would be very interested to hear of anyone personal experiences or advice for growing this variety

So are these congo potatoes originating form congo or is it just the name ?
Dont judge a plant by it's pot.

"provides moderate yields of medium size tubers"

I can translate that as........... tiny yields of small spuds

        I hope I'm wrong though

They look interesting, be careful you don't mix them up with other things, if cats and dogs have a chance of getting on your patch!

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

To drag up an old thread - we grew some Congo potatoes this year, for a bit of fun. Great colour raw and mostly kept the colour cooked. Rather strange to eat, but tasted fine and didn't disinigrate on cooking.

I accidentally left a couple in last year, and have just harvested some five inch long spuds, rather than the weeny ones I had last season. Yes, a long growing period certainly helps
