  • Saving beans

    Hi all,

Sorry if this seems like a daft question, but last year was my first year of growing properly

I'm very low on Blauhilde beans, and wondered if the ones I saved from the Blauhilde last year would be useable to grow on? They were growing up the same wigwam as Cobra and I didn't do anything special such as isolating flowers, etc.

I know squashes cross pollinate - do beans?

I think both of these are climbing french beans which don't cross readily. Runners are promiscuous! I'd give it a go.

Yes, they were both climbing french beans. Good to know that they don't cross readily.

      Thanks Flummery!

Might be nice to end up with one that's purple with green spots though.

I said 'readily' so you won't sue me next year when all your beans come up purple with green spots! You do get the occasional oddity if they grow close together but only one in a whole bunch maybe. This gives you the opportunity to grow some of the seeds of this one on for your own variety! See eveything as an opportunity!
