The Victoriana's pea is one offshoot of the Alderman variety.

They are expensive, they say that's because it's the best strain there is. I've never tried it, they may be right. But you can get Alderman from lots of other places which are alot cheaper.

Alderman really are great peas and grow huge, I grow them every year and save my own seed, very easy to do. The pea will gradually get used to the conditions in your garden if you grow them year after year and you end up with your own strain.
Last year I tried ne plus ultra and purple podded, both tall climbing peas. (with thanks to the two people on here that provided them)
The ne plus ultra I couldn't really see any difference from the Alderman, apart from the taste wasn't quite so good.
The purple podded, I found tasted horrible, no matter how they were eaten. I think this was an old Dutch pea that was used dried for soups.
"Orinoco was a fat lazy Womble"

Please ignore everything I say, I make it up as I go along, not only do I generally not believe what I write, I never remember it either.

      Thanks Womble.

I'll have a search around for some cheap ones.

        Hi
If you would like to PM me I will send you some Alderman.
I do like tall peas myself and will be growing quite a few including Alderman.
