Chilli pepper plant

Last Autumn when clearing out all the old tomato and chilli plants I took pitty on one little chilli plant, I had already taken out its label so have no idea of its variety.
anyway..... instead of throwing it in compost bin I had an idea- take it to work and plant it in one of the reception flower planters! this was just before Christmas. I pruned it hard back (frost had done it's worst) and to date it has grown a lovely flush of new leaves and I am now celebrating my first (2nd) set of flower buds! (first were last summer!)
As the plant is inside I may have to pollinate the flowers, but I am hopeful and excited that I may get a 2nd crop fingers crossed,

i too took pitty on a little chilli plant from last year. i brought it in and put it in the window. its not got any new buds but it still looks healthy. im glad you put this post because i wasnt sure if there was any point in saving this chilli plant because i didnt know if it would re-flower this year. so is it possible to get a 2nd crop of chillis from the plant?

Crazii, if you do a search you will see there have been several threads on over-wintering Chillis. I have 4 plants that are in their 3rd year and another bunch that are in their second. In my experience they tend to give a bigger crop in their 2nd year than their first, so it's deffo worth a go

I am planning on growing some chilli's this year and have been doing a little reading.....

If the plant is inside you will need to hand pollinate it as there will not be enough access to bees for this to happen naturally.

From what I have read the best way is to use a make up brush and brush every flower 1 by one therefore transferring pollen.

However I am sure i have also read that some chilli's are self pollenating, but I would use a brush just to be sure.

Not exactly. Giving them a darn good shake usually does the job. For some chillies are self pollinating read most chillies are.....

In 7 or 8 years of growing chillis indoors, I've never, ever pollinated them with a little brush... As Sarraceniac says, a little jiggle of the plant to dislodge a bit of pollen is all I've ever done. And that's mostly been by accident while watering

My Razzmattazz has been inside for 5 months now, I've never shaken nor stirred it, and it's not stopped fruiting yet

My indoor chillies are also still fruiting. No pollination assistance from me either.

My poor scotch bonnet looks like a baobab tree! Its dropped all its leaves but has just started sending out new ones so there's still some life in it.....

Lazgaot, my little plant was a real 'stumpy' but it is now a proper plant with leaves and flowers.....give it time!
