brussell bugs

All of my brussells have some sort of grey bug between the leaves ,

what is this and are they ok to eat as it looks very off putting and most have ened up in the bin

Sounds like white fly. They go all grey and mushy in the rain and snow. Can't you wash em off or are are they on the inside too? I had this because I don't think I firmed them in enough so the sprouts weren't as tight as they should be. I had to chop some in half before cooking to get rid of the white fly and it's poo. Not good. not good at all.

there in all the layers , its dome me head in a little bit , im not even going to bother with them this year

Nasty isn't it. Really puts you off your tea - like finding a slug in your lettuce or a catterpillar in your cauli. I am hoping it's to do with the tightness so I can rectify it this time. Everyone gets whitefly on our alotment but some of the other's sprouts weren't as nasty as ours. If you tread the ground in hard (one of our veterans whacks the ground with a plank of wood) before planting it should help them grow tighter and hopefully stop the bugs from getting in. Maybe. I'm hoping.

If you plant marigolds amongst them it repels the white fly aparently

It's not whitefly, they are white.

The fat grey bugs are mealy cabbage aphid.
