i grew some perpetual spinach last year, to try it out and ended up feeding a lot of it to my chooks,as it grew so well. we have had the same cold winter as everybody else(down to -13/14 and not rising above -6 for well over a week) so i was quite surprised today to find that it has started growing away again and its only about 5 degrees out there,if i had known it was this hardy, i would have transfered it into the greenhouse, to keep cropping,it must be one of the best kept secrets in gardening as i have been gardening for about 30 years and i had never heard anyone speak of its toughness, just its very good taste. i know what i will be growing under cover later in the year as the price in the shops will be high, and i can just go out and pick it..free of charge and air miles. i only wish i had found out sooner,i can almost taste it now.
