We have just sorted our seeds into a shoe box in month order with dividers in between the months which seems to be good so far as we can hopefuly plan a bit better instead of having to sift through all the packets looking at dates randomly. The problem i have now is i keep going and looking through them all to check if theres anything else i can plant this month. So far i have only planted
Leeks musselburgh and Hannibal in seed trays indoors
    Chives in a pot indoors
Chitting 1st early potatoes (not sure which variety as hubby did them)

Trying to decide whether to start parsnips this month or wait till march - have just started saving kitchen roll tubes after reading a post on here so will have to wait till we have a few. Last year we sowed direct into the ground and not one germinated!!

Same here. All these posts are making me panic. STOP SOWING EVERYBODY!!!

I can't do anything until the exam period is over - too busy.

Am thinking a ickle trip to the garden centre for some sowing compost is in order, tomorrow, though. I do have a heated mini prop, now. Be stoopid not to make use of it, eh?

Change that - just been back on ebay, so the problem is remedied!

(Really hope they don't bite now!)

Last year I had my seeds stored in a pretty tin box, not sure what's happened but the lid wont go on any more.

So now the hunts on for a bigger box.

I keep my seeds organised by which beds to plant in e.g. beans and peas, brassica etc. but as I get older the collection gets larger so I will have to throw some out. I have some very old tomato seeds which still germinate okay sungold I think they are; the packet has gone all faded. Anyone else got very old but good seeds?

Toms are usually good for 10 years. Brassicas can go on even longer. Mr Flum and his dad sowed a mixed patch of turnip, swede, cabbage - all brassicas - that had been his grandad's - 40 years old that seed box was - and some came up.

Mine has not bitten me yet G4! I have chilli's and peppers potted on from my 1st Januarry sewings. They are now sitting on the bedroom windowcill next to the prop, also some in the bathroom next to the chocolate habe I over wintered from last year.

In the heated prop now I have baby bell peppers, aubergines and yet more chillies showing. They were put to bed on 6th feb. I'm waiting on most of my habs but the trinidad scorpion chillis have woken up 2 of 3 so far showing Also 1 of 2 so far yellow bumby chillis have said hello to the world.

I hope it wont be long and then I can get some toms on the way in there well b4 the end of march anyway, then that will be 3 different sets of seeds started in same prop since 1st Jan. I think my baby heated prop is doing a great job. I don't want to have to buy a second one even though im sorely tempted to!

                              Hello

Do you all have propagators? Are they essential?

I have a spreadsheet too, but I havent filled in the sowing dates as I'm a bit unsure. I'm waiting on a greenhouse, so was kinda holding off until that gets assembled

I'm not sure anything is essential - but in my view a propagator will help speed up germination.

When you say you haven't filled in the sowing dates on your sheet, do you mean you don't know when to sow?
