I save the cartons that you get things like tomatoes in and pop my loo rolls in those cos they've got high sides it stops them falling over.

Suzie if you've got a spare tray insert try my idea of standing the squared off loo rolls inside.

just been upstairs to take a photo of my loo rolls.

ooh that's clever Bren - it even has the colour of the toilet paper on it

I've been using loo rolls since I started gardening but I have never been successful in starting Brassicas in them. Don't know why.

I place all my loo roll tubes and/or paper pots into high sided trays to prevent them from toppling. Also make sure the tray is filled with 'pots' as gaps encourage slouching!

Loo rolls and paper pots can be squared off by folding in half vertically, twice, and pressing the folds down firmly to create strong creases. This helps to maintain the new shape.
A good beginning is half the work.

I used them for parsnips last year - worked great! My challenge is keeping the rolls - cleaning lady doesn't understand and keeps chucking them (ditto tonic water bottles which I reckon would be great for tomato watering!)

I've tried starting off sweetpeas in loo rolls in the past but they have gone mouldy even though I've only watered them sparingly, I think they need to be kept somehwere fairly warm, dry & airy.

Yes, they are better for later in the year when it's not so cold and gloomy. Having said that, I've got a tray of sweet pea loo rolls outside, I just couldn't stop myself

Another trick I learned from zazen is that if you fold the loo roll tubes you can store about 5-6 inside an unfolded loo roll tube. Saves so much space.
Oh Piskie; what are we gonna do with you?

                    Does this help?

I used to use them till I discovered root trainers. Then I thought I was in love and I wanted to have their babies!

I've only ever used them for Sweet Peas started in Autumn, this time round I'm experimenting using some kitchen towel rolls for some S Peas to get long roots...and not the normal circular mess I seem to get. I'll check mine out tomorrow and photograph the results so far.
