Yep - a swift 20 seconds on full power in the microwave does the job with the mould issue. But any longer and you will set the kitchen on fire. They smell nice tho - cooked loo rolls!

This confused me last time it was mentioned & has done so again. The reason the roll gets mould is overwatering I guess. Therefore there is a seedling in the roll...........microwave?................

You microwave them before you put either the seedling or the compost in.......

Wow, that's a lot of replies, thank everyone will pass the info on to hubby and let him decide what we should use. If i've read this right we should blast the rolls in te microwave beore planting which should help solve the mould problem? Have got my mum saving kitchen rolls too but don't fancy other peoples loo rolls!!

I nuked loo rolls last year, made no difference to the mould formation.

Nor me, it doesn't seem to have an adverse effect.
As others have suggested, it can be reduced by careful watering from above.
I will still be using them again this year, for my sweetcorn especially.

I've not had any go mouldy yet, my only problem is hiding them so my grandson doesn't make telescopes out of them all.

Now I know I asked this earlier and you thought I was showing off (I'm not, honest), but does anyone think my cardboard is too thick? Please?

Its more common for them to go mouldy in a warm place and its just the cardboard not the seeds, can look pretty scary though all different colours.

I wonder if its a brand thing ?
