Which potato varieties yield most?

I guess the question depends on a number of things, like space, compost etc.

However, I'm going to our local Open Potato Day on Saturday in Saltaire and won't know til I get there what's on offer so can't check whether anything I see will be suitable. So thought I'd try and compile a list before I go to refer to.

I'd like your recommendations for a salad/new potato and a red skinned floury type of baking, mashing and roasting and maybe something unusual. We like charlottes and either desiree or romano's which I've grown before but would like to try something else this year. I've heard Kerr's Pink is a good one.

They will be grown in bags like those in Tattie Man's video as we have limited space at home and I can stand these on the patio area. Got room for 20-25 bags so would like to try 3 or 4 varieties that will be productive in 40-50 litres of compost.

Tried Pink Fir Apple last year but was disappointed with the quantity per bag. Charlottes did much better.

Any suggestions or ideas please?

Look for the Pentland types for high yield. eg. Pentland Crown, Pentland Dell & Pentland Squire

Nicola and Juliette are both salad types similar to Charlotte.We had a particularly good crop from Nicola last year, so I've gone for them along with Charlotte. And for the first potatoes of the year I've gone with 'Ulster' types as they've done well for me in pots in the past.
Alternatives to a red potato... Hmmm... I just always grow Desiree! But you could try; Rooster, Rudolph, Maxine (although these are said to be waxy) Smile. or Red Duke of York.

I find the ones with the highest yields are the ones with the least flavour.

1st Vales Emerald
2nd Premier
3rd Puritan

Saltaire is about 3-4 miles from here and they have regular farmers markets and an annual food festival so we do reasonably well. There is also a French market and we have the markets in Bingley, Keighley, Otley, Ilkley and Haworth. Spoilt really!

I've lived in Norwich, Radcliffe on Trent, London, Jersey and Devon but here's definitely the best for me.

Which side? Baildon side, the other side of the river or Nab Wood? I'm in Micklethwaite on outskirts of Bingley. Was in Priestthorpe, Bingley for 19 years til 3 years ago then moved out to this village. Semi rural, a lot quieter and lovely to look out over fields instead of houses.

Baildon, Shipley Glen... twas a few houses and fields when I lived there, went back there 5 years ago and now its just a load of bloody barrat homes.
Still when I was growing up there Saltaire was a dump, not a load of world class art galleries!
I vaguely remember both Mickle and Priest, lovely!

I tried Edzell Blue a couple of years ago. They were reasonably high yielding (enough for us anyway) and they were really floury - great for roast potatoes and mash but only for that because if you boiled them for very long they would just turn to mush!

Well I played a bit safe today and got Charlottes and Desirees which I've tried before, but also Nicola and Red Duke of York.

Just as well we got there 20 mins before the off as there were already 20 people there. Bit of a scrum, so got in, paid and got out again before we got trampled under foot...lol
