I'm using bottom heat for my seedlings. Peppers/Toms are all up in a week. The Temp. is kept at a constant heat of 75F.
When seedlings emerge I take them off the bottom heat to Temp at around 68F.
Those I have potted up into 3inch pots are moved to even cooler Temp. of 60F to slow them down. Thus avoiding leggyness brought on by lack of daytime lights.

I must pot mine on today! Thanks for the reminder

Mine were germinated in a piece of kitchen roll on top of wetted , scrunched up paper in a bowl covered with clingfilm sitting ontop of the radiator.
Started them off a week ago and they've all got fluffy roots and first couple of leaves on a 1cm stem.Very pale leaves- so into a cooler brighter place today!!!
Strange thing is that I'd have thought the leaves would have baked on top of the radiator- but nope- they look fine!!

Chillies, sweet peppers and tomatoes all into their third set of leaves. Am warming up some compost to pot on. They were all germinated and grown on above radiators on well-lit windowsills, and of course we have had bright, cold weather up here for ages now. Plastic bags came off once germination had taken place - between 1 and 2 weeks - and they are all doing well. Temp on sills is between 16 and 20C. Don't know if they would be so good had we had our usual quota of heavy rain and cloud but, aside from compost and some plastic bags, it has cost me nothing. Well.....there is the original cost of the seeds, of course!

mine take a week but they are in a cheap BQ heated propagator and before that they would normally take about 3 weeks.
