Digital or Chemical PH test

To all you budding scientists out there, I want to check the ph of my veg beds. Which if any is the best option and any recommendations. Thanks.

Digital for me saves a lot of faffing about digging up a bit of soil take it home dry it out distilled water chemical shake up wait till it settles read colour chart OR stick probe in the ground and read

I was told on my RHS course that digital is not overly reliable, that it is better to use the chemical tests - take samples from several areas of your garden, as it will/may vary
