On my new allotment I am not sure which direction to grow peas, beans etc. At the moment there are two raised beds with a long side and a short side, do I sow short rows or long rows, the long rows running across the plot. I will be adding more beds as the plot is on a slope. The plot is in full sun all day coming from the left to the right as you look down the hill.

My main beds all run with the long side along the north south direction. I grow most of my crops across the narrower east west direction but that's really what fits best. I do try to put the taller ones at the north end of the plot though so they don't shed shade on the shorter ones.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

As Alison says - try and get your rows into a roughly north/south direction so the sun can get at them from the east in the morning and the west in the afternoon.Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?Comment
