  • splitting seed potatoes

    Hi there,
Like most people I will be planting out my seed potatoes soon. One or two of the seeds are quite large. I understand that it's OK to cut them into smaller pieces, however if I did this I am worried that they would rot in the ground or be susceptible to disease. I remember many years ago my old grandad splitting dahlia tubers & applying what I think was flower of sulphur powder to stop them rotting. Would it be OK putting some on my potatoes if it's still available. My OH also used to use it to clean/whiten the fur on his ferrets so it is obviously safe to use & not a health hazard.

You can just cut them and leave the cut bit to dry out a bit before you plant it.
