  • Soft Potatoes

I've had my potatoes chitting for about 3 weeks and whilst they have got some shoots they have gone soft and a bit wrinkled.
I suspect that this has happened because the room has been a too warm at times.
Can anyone advise whether this will impact their crop and whether I'm better starting again with a new batch in a cooler place.

    Thanks
    Harvester

I've had this hapen in the past - I'm not sure what causes it, maybe it is warmth - but they seem to be ok when you plant them out. I've never had a gap in the row!

      I'm 90% certain this isn't a problem.
Last year I used supermarket bought potatoes that had sprouted in the cupboard, they had gone soft too, but I got a considerable crop off them.
The seed potatoes I'm using this year have also gone soft while chitting, but I've planted them out now and I'm sure they'll do just fine.

As for crop quantities, well that's the 10% I'm not certain about!

I posted this same thing on the spud thread that tattieman answered so many questions on - really useful thread.

He said it's nothing to worry about!
