Just wondering if anyone else was trying this bean this year. It is supposedly the first self pollinating runner bean so will be interesting if I get any beans any earlier and what sort of crop they give.
It's allegedly a cross between a runner (cross polinator) and a climbing french bean (self pollinator). I have a few seeds kindly sent by a grape. If I hadn't emptied my in-box yesterday I'd be abe to tell you who! I'm intersted to see how they do, too. My donor likened them to yoghurt-covered raisins!

Are you going to be trying them out this year Flum, i would be interested on how they get on, you to Gojiberry, please keep us informed
I don't know but I really like those flat French climbers 'Hunter' they are called....sent some saved seed to a grape the other day.....can't recommend them enough.
That's it! Basket case! Thank you my dear. Loss of memory is a dreadful thing!
Good idea to run a swift comment and assessment thread when we've all had a try of them. I'm wondering if they are cross pollinators like mummy or tightly packaged and un-pollinatable like daddy (or 'tuther way round?)
Mine are tucked up nicely too. Nithering here, as they say.
I was looking to get some of these too. Not many sites seem to sell the seed, some have plants. I found Plants of Distinction are supposed to have them, so it looks like I'll be sending in an order to them. Of course, to make the most of the postage costs I'll need to order a few other things too
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
Now a little Shrinking Violet.
I'm growing them this year over my arch, I'm also growing St George so the two should give a lovely display of flowers as well. Moonlight are white & St George are red & white...we'll all have to compare notes.

will be hoping they are ok as not growing any other variety, sowd the last week in pots and seem to be sprouting good enough already
