Would velcro stop slugs?

Had lunch with my Dad today who used to grow his own veg. He suggested that if I put velcro around the edge of the raised beds it may stop slugs and snails.

Does anyone think this would work? And what would be the best way to fix it to the wood? I don't think it would stick to wood so should I just nail it on?

Jollity apart, I think it's a reasonable suggestion. Slugs and snails generally opt to avoid 'uncomfortable' surfaces in favour of smooth ones.

Nail some to your beds and see what happens Rossa, I suspect you may well have the last laugh

My OH can't understand why I am laughing! I have this crazy image of slugs with velcro on their bellies.

I found some slugs the other day..(edit: I thought it'd be too cold for them?) whilst I was putting up some supports to eventually get some wire running along the house wall to train bushes up.

I just hammered them into the ground.

Felt a bit like timmy mallet.

Okay... sniggering aside...I'm with Seahorse here ...give it a go! I'd try a staple gun to attach it. (to the beds not the molluscs) I imagine it will work out quite costly so a smallish trial before the major out lay might be shrewd.

Of course the real brainteaser will be to find some thing to do with the yards of the furry side you'll have left..... Don't worry they laughed at many of the great innovators of the past.

If you stuck the furry side to the slugs you could stick them half way up a wall where they couldn't do any harm? Or did I dream that?
